One of the most awkward things that can happen in a pub is when your pint-to-toilet cycle gets synchronised with a complete stranger.

Women go to Thailand to pick sex of baby
Informative Article Summary by Anny Redperz

Victorian women are travelling to Thailand to circumvent IVF sex-choice laws and pick the sex of their babies.

Is it right to pick the sex of your baby?
Let us know your thoughts.
Trips costing up to ,000 are being undertaken by mothers desperate to choose the gender of their babies after the practice was overruled by the Australian Health Ethics Committee in 2004.

Doctors face jail in Victoria for assisting with sex selections, despite women attending clinics and asking for assistance.

Thailand's medical council does not condone sex selection but several Thai clinics offer the service as a cheaper alternative to the US, where the practice is allowed, the Herald Sun newspaper reported.

Melbourne IVF chief executive Dr Lyndon Hale says he refused a number of women seeking assistance in the last year and only directed them to look on the internet for information.

"We would tell them (about Thailand)," Dr Hale said. "We would suggest you get on the web and make your own arrangements."

It's Science Anyway
God has no part in IVF it's science. Until u have actually done IVF & understand how intrusive and clinical it is, you cannot fully comprehend how it affects your life & your health. An ICSI example (not typical but not uncommon) is months of pessaries & daily injections 2 produce massive amounts of eggs, Sperm removed through surgery in a non-mature state, eggs collected through surgery, sperm injected directly into eggs (completely bipassing the laws of nature 4 these sperm would never be able 2 do this on their own as they have no tails), Eggs r placed in serum with the fluids of (I believe it was mice), Embryo deemed most likely 2 survive selected by embryologist pre-hatched (they're playing God here right?), Embryo inserted, pessaries inserted over coming weeks 2 keep hormone levels up, Cross fingers u r pregnant, more likely not. So if a woman is going through such a scientific ordeal anyway, what the heck difference does it make whether the gender is selected at embryo stage?

IVF for the sex of your child.
We have the brains & we have developed the technology and therefore we are able to determine the sex of our children ... however, our selfishness does not equate with the balance that nature (NOT someone's god!)has maintained for eons. Look at the extreme cases occurring in China & India today where the choice of sex has been left to people who stupidly think that only males in the future will be the bread winners. In the worst cases, kidnappings and murders have occurred in order for men to get wives. Many other men must travel to distant countries to find women.

baby choosing
For medical reasons ONLY I think we should be allowed that choice. I have a genetic disorder which will cause severe disablement if I was to conceive a boy. That is if I made it to term. The right to be able to choose would prevent a lot of heartache in my situation. But it should be restricted to medical reasons only. If not for genetic problems, we should all be greatful for the gift of having a child what ever sex we were given.

Boy or girl?
I was married for 22 years, she died 2001. I bought up her son from a previous marriage. We never had any of out own. I am sub-fertile, 5 miscarriages.. Then I spent 7 years with another lady and her sons. Now I look around at all the girls popping them out like shelling peas and it makes me very sad and angry too. There is not a single woman in Australia of child breeding age who will consider me at my age, so I have been to Philippines and found a young lady. She has a 2 year old son to some kid who ran off. I will make her my wife. Wth her I will be my first and maybe last child and it will be by IVF and we have chosen the sex. We will have a daughter first. I will adopt her son. We will have a family at last. If a couple is mature enough to CHOOSE to have a child by IVF then thay are mature enough to CHOOSE what they want. GIve them that choice and religion and politics *** OUT!

Choosing the sex of a baby
There are some circumstances where this is a good thing - like for a woman who has had numerous boys and would like to have a baby girl, or if a baby is at risk from sex-defined diseases. As long as the baby will be loved and cared for by it's parents, then sex shouldn't matter - whether it is a chosen sex or a natural sex. The option to choose, will however open doorways to more unethical choices - like choosing eye colour, hair colour, etc. If there is no limit to what we can change, by the end, we will be a race that has been designed by our own desires.

The only way it should be right.......
is if there is a genetic fault within the parents. Meaning, that if they were to have a baby of a certain sex, it could be born with genetic faults and be a very sick infant perhaps even resulting in death soon after birth. As far as choosing just because you already have 4 girls and wanted a boy, then I think that's just plain wrong. Why can't we just let nature be nature, and accept what we are given.

chossing sex of baby
well i think people should have a right to choose the sex of a baby i have 4 beaitful girls would not change that for anything but always hoped 1 would be a boy. so let people choose. It the way life is heading.choice and maybe more choices too will make this world a happier place

Not for a boring predictable world.
The whoyourdaddy from Brisbane comment was well written but I don't agree. On one hand you admit that God makes the sun go down & blesses us with intelligence & you are thankful to God for your boys but you still want to be in control & not let God lead you to what is best for you. You want to box him up on a shelf. How boring would we be if we didn't let God surprise us & we ruled everything with our wicked ways. Let's use our Godgiven gifts for God's good purposes. Personally I would rather orgasm & have lots of boys than have boring sex to try for a girl as that is what the experts tell us is the recipe.
