Writing Style: Anecdotal/Feature Writing

Sharp chin, almond shaped eyes and porcelain complexion. Standing at 167cm, weighing 53kg, Lynn a 28 year-old customer service officer is not your average girl next door.

However, Lynn is not contented with her appearance.

On top of Botox injection after a visit to a local Aesthetic clinic, she is scheduled to undergo Rhinoplasty (commonly known as Nose Surgery) in Thailand at the end of this month.

Like Lynn, there are many Asian women opting for cosmetic surgery to enhance their features not only locally but also regionally.

Traveling abroad for cosmetic surgery is nothing new, because what attracts foreign patients is ultimately price.

With Rhinoplasty at a local private clinic costing 6,000 to 12,000 Singapore dollars will only cost Lynn US $ 600 (SGD $ 840) dollars in Thailand.

Government hospitals in Singapore offer plastic surgery at a relatively reasonable 2,800 dollars for a nose job and 2, 200 dollars for eyelid surgery. Plastic surgery is only widely available to middle-class people in Singapore. "No country can compete with Thailand," says Dr. Preecha Tiewtranon, a surgeon specializing in sex reassignment at Bangkok's Preecha Aesthetic Institute, where 80% of the clientele is foreign.

Countries like Thailand and South Korea are tweaking regulations and creating incentives to attract more medical tourism.

The Thai government, recognizing the money-making potential of plastic surgeries, promote institutions like the Bumrungrad Hospital together with The Tourism Authority of Thailand to foreigners, who make up one-third of its patients.

South Korea announced that it would relax strict regulations in order to become the world’s leading destination for cosmetic surgery tourism.

Separately, the Seoul city government capitalized on the popularity of the "Korean Wave" of pop culture in Asia in recent years has launched a project to attract more foreign tourists seeking plastic procedures.

Travel agencies offering plastic surgery tours targeting Japanese which include airfare, hotel, sightseeing and breasts augmentation have sprang up in Apkujong, a section of Seoul with over 400 surgery clinics nicknamed "Plastic Surgery Street" in Korea—all for the cost of the procedure in Japan alone.

Unlike the others who go on such beauty trips for bargains, Lau An Ling, now 42, an actress from Philippines has spent more than $ 200,000 since 1999 in an effort to look more attractive.

From her vagina to her hands, Ling had been disfigured by bad cosmetic work. She came to Singapore early in April 2006 to seek help from Dr. Woffles Wu, consultant plastic surgeon at Camden Medical Centre hoping to "restore her youthful looks."

Although still a taboo in many cultures, cosmetic surgery is slowly gaining acceptance and made more accessible around the world with such packaged cosmetic surgery tours.
